Ray is a Partner of GMLV and dealmaker-in-residence. He has the knack for envisioning and building strategic marketing opportunities for clients, as well as some of today’s media giants, that result in more sales, stronger branding, and category leadership for all involved.
Ray created the business and funding strategies largely responsible for the opening of New Jersey’s premiere sports and entertainment center, the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. As President of the YankeeNets division, Newark Sports and Entertainment, Ray created the marketing strategy that resulted in acquiring the full amount of funding needed to open the Center, from the State of New Jersey, The County of Essex and The City of Newark. Today the Prudential Center is the home of New Jersey Devils hockey, New York Liberty basketball, and Seton Hall University basketball, as well as a springboard for Newark’s revitalization.
Earlier in Ray’s marketing career he created “made for television” sports programming in order to provide a targeted platform to differentiate and showcase his clients’ product lines. His Isuzu Celebrity Golf Championship (now known as the American Century Championship), receives over eight hours of live network exposure annually, and has been carried by NBC Sports since 1990. Ray is the past VP of Advertising of Madison Square Garden, where he was part of the team that launched the MSG Network and USA Network. Ray subsequently created the business plan that led to the creation of the YES Network, now the TV home of the Yankees and Brooklyn Nets. Ray has also served clients outside sports including Anheuser Busch, Coca Cola, General Mills, Avis Rent-a-Car, and Six Flags Corporation.
Ray attended law school and has an MBA from Rutgers. He is married and has two children.
